Who the heck is Denji Meno?
The Lumen Quill Original Character Site

So, hi. If you ended up here, you probably came from one of my other sites, so welcome. My name is Lumen Quill, I'm an author, and this is kind of my personal lore website for characters from Role Plays, Fanfiction, and other stuff that is definitely not getting published. If you've read my books, you might be familiar with a Denji, or a Lyra.... this isn't really about them. This is a website for chronicling the story of the original versions of a couple of reoccurring characters in my writing, for context on how they became reoccurring characters. It's all a bit confusing out of context, so why not look around and see what there is to see?
Denji "Taro" Meno

Name: Denji Meno
Species: Demigod (Muse)
Title: Arbiter of Nothing
Aliases: Denny Boy, Taro
Gender: some flavor of nonbinary he hasn't explored much
Pronouns: He/him, primarily
Sexuality: Asexual
Abilities: Magic, Cosmic Awareness, Snark, remembering other "continuities"
Counterparts: Denji (Other London), Deluge (Starcrossers), Sonnet (Poet's Rhyme)- involuntary dimensional drifter
- a constant victim of his own hubris
- aware of the fourth wall
- perpetually annoyed
- full of existential dread and spite
- former villain, current begrudging anti-heroA Dimensional Wizard who once sold his soul to the metaphorical devil and has spent the past eternity trying to escape the problems that caused. He hasn't learned much along the way and is kind of a jerk. Avoidant towards responsibility, kind of single-minded in his goals, but with a surprising bleeding heart when it comes to kids, Taro trucks through life begrudgingly and sardonically. His mother was a Muse, and his father was a normal human who was called to another world by mistake. The result of this is him having a rather unstable existence, being cosmically aware of the fourth wall since his early teens and cosmically drawn to other world's "stories" against his will. His younger sister, Lara, has a much more stable and less traumatic inheritance of muse-related powers, and he somewhat begrudges her for it.When he was fourteen he sold his soul to a pair of twin Gods of Mind for vast magical power, who used him as their messenger in the physical world for a few centuries before he was freed in a deal made with them by someone else. He has since defeated the Twins by stealing their Maddening Power and sealing away the majority of it somewhere unknown, keeping a small amount for himself to use in reserve.Being cosmically aware, Taro has been on a quest to give the author who created him some comeuppance for a good long while. Being intrinsically linked to the person who writes your story doesn't help the existential dread much.
Okay, but, Why?
Taro is the funneling of a lot of feelings of being trapped in my own mental illness when I was a teenager. He started as an antagonistic character to Tammy, who I vented a lot of other feelings into, and then eventually stumbled into protagonisthood himself. However, as I grew up and grew past those feelings, he grew up with me and we sort of came to an understanding. Now he gets to be my mascot character, more or less.Taro originates from Hideout RP, which was a little chat box role play me and some friends had going in our teens that later influenced Other London a lot.
Trivia
He adopted the name "Taro," which can be read as "First son," to distinguish himself from other guys-named-Denji relevant to the author's writing.
He's not very creative when it comes to names.
His eyes are naturally kind of amber coloured, like Alty's, and his hair is naturally red, but stress and abuse of The Twins' magic changed those.
Taro has a significant other, but she's a character owned by a friend of the author. (Because shipping you and your friends OCs is fun)
He has a soft spot for rabbits and hates dogs
he's kind of perpetually in a bad mood
He loves breakfast foods, like eggs and bacon
He's kind of bad at shapeshifting magic
Taro's name is a reference to a bit of misinformation on an old Mario Wiki, claiming Dimentio from Super Paper Mario's real name was "Denji Meno." This stuck as Taro's name.
All the other characters named "Denji" in writings of mine are effectively AUs of this Denji

Laramie "Lara" Asunder

Name: Laramie Asunder
Species: Demigod (Muse)
Title: Consort of Prophecy
Aliases: Lara
Gender: Female
Pronouns: she/her, they/them
Sexuality: Pretty Gay
Abilities: conditional reality warping, being a general pain
Counterparts: Lyra (Other London), Flora (Starcrossers)- wannabe goddess
- chaotic stupid
- oblivious gay
- manipulative but like, bad at it
- reality warper
- cartoon villainTaro's younger sister, a muse of storytelling, and a wannabe goddess. Always on a quest to snag some attention, Lara has the power to canonize anything written down by someone other than herself to reality, and makes use of it mostly by being a general nuisance. Starting mafias, cults, and weird fanclubs in her wake, it's a wonder she hasn't destroyed most worlds she has been to.Unlike Taro, she is NOT cosmically aware, but somehow tends to show up in worlds he is in anyway. While Taro inherited mostly bad luck and being cosmically drawn into stories from their muse mother, Lara inherited actual muse powers and can bend the world to the whim of things other people have written down. She can't canonize anything she has written, though, and relies on recruiting poor shmucks to help her.Lara's has been sealed away by various interdimensional forces on multiple occasions, but somehow always tends to break out. She's hard to keep in one place and loses interest in things easily.
Okay, but, Why?
After I graduated high school I wanted to make a character that wasn't as angst ridden or as tied to personal conflicts as Taro or Tammy, so I made Lara as a riff on the time I was the god of a cult in high school. She's supposed to be kind of the anti-Taro, a kind of goofy, chaotic character who can get away with anything and is just pleasantly annoying.Lara is originally from a little role play/comic making activity me and some friends called Mafiaverse. It was made using Walfas, if anyone knows what that is.
Trivia
The bandages around her arms are actually scrolls containing various writing she has canonized
Lara has a girlfriend, who is on this site! Look for Libretto!
Lara comes across a bit self-absorbed and not very smart, but she's paying more attention than you think.
Taro and Lara have a pretty awkward and relationship neither of them really want to deal with
Lara is probably best described as incredibly Chuunibyo. Look it up.
Lara's favorite animals are penguins, and her favourite food is cheesecake
Lara is kind of useless in a fight, her abilities lending themselves better to support and showmanship than actual combat and she herself being too impatient to learn any real self-defense
contrary to popular belief, Lara is not a lot of little dogs in a trenchcoat.
Lara wears long skirts frequently, liking loose, flowy clothes.
Lara is kind of a useless lesbian and rarely notices if others are interested in her
Deep down, past all the bravado, she probably is a little insecure
Has a cat! Her cat is the strongest.

Tammy Lorraine Tamer

Name: Tammy Lorraine Tamer
Species: Human
Title: Keeper of Chaos
Aliases: Miss Tamer
Gender: Female
Pronouns: she/her
Sexuality: "Why is everyone hot?"
Abilities: wielding a massive hammer, avoiding her problems, rallying others behind her
Counterparts: Shyna Tamer (Other London), Tempest (Starcrossers)- legendary hero
- also an apocalypse maiden oops
- plays tank to protect her friends
- sees potential in everyone
- secretly afraid
- natural leaderThe legendary hero, who will decide the fate of the world, Tammy was whisked away at a young age to another world to fulfill this duty for the prophecy Taro and the Twins were responsible for instigating.Upon discovering she had the potential to destroy worlds with this decision, Tammy put on a brave face and started a guild of young adventurers in hopes of finding one strong enough to stop her if it came to that. The Hideout Guild, in turn, became her family.Tammy is bold and energetic, a really shonen hero type on the outside, but lives in fear of her own potential. She wields the Locke Hammer, a massive ethereal magic war hammer with the ability to summon any structure on land its wielder owns, and is how she built the Hideout itself.
Okay, but, Why?
I had a falling out with a friend in my early teens that caused me to live in fear of my own potential to hurt others for a long time, and as such created Tammy to vent those feelings and spend some time being the hero for once. It's probably safe to say that she's a little retroactively influenced by Kamina from Gurren Lagann, being a loud and bombastic leader who truly has no idea what the heck she's doing and rallies others to fight in place of her insecurity. At her inception, she was probably more influenced by Max from Maximum Ride and Sally Acorn from the Archie Sonic The Hedgehog Comics.Tammy is originally from Hideout RP.
Trivia
Tammy has died like, twice and come back because her friends at the Hideout Guild went and busted her out of the afterlife
Tammy's favourite food is clam chowder
Her soul is separated from her body, in the form of the star-shaped hairpin she wears. This is Taro's fault.
She has no significant others, but has been with and got around enough to have two kids eventually.
She is basically Taro's nemesis
Tammy has gone through several first name changes, some of which have been inherited by her counterparts in other stories. this led to friends of mine just calling her "Miss Tamer" for a long while, and eventually that led to the nickname "Tammy," which stuck as her actual name

Altymon (Alty)

Name: Altymon
Species: Digimon (?)
Title: Sympathy for an Uncaring God
Aliases: Alty
Gender: N/A
Pronouns: "He" like a little guy
Sexuality: N/A
Abilities: opening portals, shooting little zappy beams from the circles on his ears, being the weakest incarnation of Denji
Counterparts: Biri (Digimon OC)- little guy
- mascot character
- chip on his shoulder
- wants your food
- supportive friend
- wishes he was cooler lookingA small creature created by Taro in the image of a Digimon, born from his sympathy for the Author who tormented him so. This not being a very strong emotion of his, Altymon isn't especially powerful, taking the form of a rookie level digimon.Alty is insecure and easily exasperated, but has a strong sense of justice and feels Taro's fate to be unfair. He does what he can to accompany the Author and protect them, while trying to sway things for the better for both Taro and the Author.Altymon is a rookie/child level, vaccine attribute, Holy Beast Digimon, a part of the Nightmare Soldiers field. His attacks are Echo Shoot and Flip Gate, and yeah, he’s wearing a holy ring over his scarf. Canon Digimon he can evolve into include Meicoomon, Siesamon, Madleomon, Aegiomon, and Sorcerymon. For anyone who knows what all of that means, I guess.
Okay, but, Why?
Kirby and Forgotten Land made me feel feelings. I was long overdue for an OC Digimon, and had been joking Taro was secretly my Digimon Partner for years, so... this happened.
Trivia
Alty is supposed to be vaguely feline in design, if it wasn't obvious
Alty shares Nebula from Other London's love of cheese
Altymon's design is inspired by Elfilin from Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Calumon from Digimon, Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura, and Carbuncles as they appear in the Final Fantasy series.
He's a little guy, basically the size of a teddy bear
Alty functions as my mascot on social media
Alty was originally named "Elfymon" but that caused people to miss design inspirations other than Elfilin, so he ended up getting renamed "Altymon" to avoid that

Libretto Merlumina

Name: Libretto Merlumina
Species: Tsukumogami (Book)
Title: Origin of Prophecy
Aliases: The Intern, Book Wife
Gender: Female
Pronouns: she/her, they/them
Sexuality: Disaster Bisexual
Abilities: Magic, attracting unwanted attention, projecting a human-looking form from her book
Counterparts: Libra (Other London)- Yokai born of an ancient tome
- a good guy who gets dragged into villainous activities by her crush
- Lara's moral compass
- despite this, often goes along with whatever Lara wants to do
- lived a pretty sheltered life until joining Lara
- the power of love is serious business!A book of dubious ancient prophecy and dark magical knowledge that gained sentience after one hundred years of being cared for by a family of magic users, Libretto is more an optimist than the apocalyptic text she carries implies. sheltered by the family that cared for her in hopes no one would use her ancient knowledge for evil, they taught the young tsukumogami morals and belief in the power of love.It is unfortunate that Libretto was accidentally whisked away by one Laramie Asunder in a failed summoning ritual. Libretto instantly fell head over heels for her, and decided to follow Lara and prevent her from using her power for evil.... with mixed success. Lara, unaware of Libretto's identity as the book of prophecy, appoints Libretto her "intern" in response to this. While Libretto's feelings are initially one-sided, Lara slowly opens up to her in their adventures, and the two become incredibly close, leading Libretto to carry some guilt about lying about her identity.Libretto is upbeat and optimistic, if a bit neurotic and overly organized. She sees the good in everyone, and as such accompanies Lara on her journey to gain followers with hope in her heart that no one will get hurt... much.
Okay, but, Why?
So Intern was originally a randomly generated Walfas character added to the comics Lara was originally from. Lara consistently gives the energy of a Disgaea protagonist, so it's only fitting she have her own Flonne. She's pretty heavily based on the Light Prognosticus and Dark Prognosticus from Super Paper Mario, too.Intern is originally from Mafiaverse
Trivia
Libretto is a Tsukumogami, a kind of yokai (Japanese supernatural being) born from an object that lasts 100 years.
Anyone who reads her book form typically goes mad, so she tends to not let anyone else see the text
Libretto projects a human form outside her book so to better interact with other people, but the book can always be seen on her persons. she normally claims its a spell focus of some kind.
Lara just assumes shes some other kind of youkai
She doesn't have animal ears, those are just her hair. They represent dog-eared pages in her book form.
Libretto was designed as a sort of harmony between elements in Mafiaverse that were inspired by Touhou Project, and elements that were inspired by Super Paper Mario.
Her name was chosen by herself, and is not the title of her book form.
She can disguise her book form as other objects and frequently hides it in the form of a staff or a wand
You'd think Lara is the offensive magic user and Libretto is the defensive magic user, but no, Libretto is through and through a Black Mage-type and Lara mostly uses support magic in battle.
